Types: ABS, PBT, POM, metal, resin, among which ABS and PBT are the most common Mechanical Keyboard keycaps
- ABS:
- Material: ABS plastic is A terpolymer of acrylonitrile (A), butadiene (B), styrene (S) three monomers, the relative content of the three monomers can be arbitrarily changed to make a variety of resins.
- Features: ABS plastic has the common properties of three components, A makes it resistant to chemical corrosion, heat resistance, and has a certain surface hardness, B makes it have high elasticity and toughness, S makes it have the processing and forming characteristics of thermoplastics and improve electrical properties. Therefore, ABS plastic is a kind of "tough, hard and rigid" material with easy access to raw materials, good comprehensive performance, cheap price and wide use.
- Disadvantages: easy to grease, depending on whether the coating, the surface of the key looks shiny and shiny, sensory and physical feeling will be greatly reduced.
- PBT:
- Material: Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), is a polyester made of terephthalic acid and 1, 4-butanediol condensation, is an important thermoplastic polyester, one of the five major engineering plastics.
- Features: Polybutylene terephthalate is a milky white semi-transparent to opaque, semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester with high heat resistance. Not resistant to strong acid, strong alkali, organic solvent, flammable, high temperature decomposition. PBT is not scratch resistant, but wear resistant. The PBT content of the key cap clock is low, and the general manufacturers choose particularly thick tan lines. The high content of PBT is almost only the keyboard Switch knob of the thermal sublimation process, the yield is low, the cost is high, and the distortion.
- Disadvantages: It is not easy to shape, feel is not delicate enough, the cost is much higher than ABS, and PBT dichroic will also oil.
3.POM:
- Material: POM (polyformaldehyde resin) Definition: Polyformaldehyde is a linear polymer with no side chain, high density and high crystallization. According to the chemical structure of its molecular chain, it can be divided into homopolyformaldehyde and copolyformaldehyde two kinds. The important differences between the two are: homopolyformaldehyde density, crystallinity, melting point are high, but the thermal stability is poor, the processing temperature range is narrow (about 10℃), and the stability of acid and base is slightly low; The density, crystallinity, melting point and strength of copolyformaldehyde are low, but the thermal stability is good, it is not easy to decompose, and the processing temperature range is wide (about 50℃), and the stability of acid and base is good. It is an engineering plastic with excellent comprehensive properties.
- Features: Good physical, mechanical and chemical properties, especially excellent friction resistance. Commonly known as steel or steel, it is the third largest general engineering plastic. It has the characteristics of high hardness, high steel and high wear resistance.
- Disadvantages: Feel more slippery than PBT, not dry enough, due to high cost, few manufacturers currently use.
